Filipa Gomes Teixeira attended the AIJA conference “Between Scylla and Charybdis: Steering Through the Waters of Cross-Border Finance and Taxation”, held in Thessaloniki from 24 to 26 September 2026.
The programme brought together tax, finance and transactional lawyers to discuss the increasing complexity of cross-border investment and financing structures, against a backdrop of evolving tax, regulatory and market conditions.
Key topics included sustainable finance and regulatory trends, withholding tax and deductibility in cross-border secured transactions, structuring for high-net-worth individuals investing in assets such as real estate, art and yachts, and the growing importance of substance when accessing treaty benefits.
The discussions also addressed emerging developments in financial markets, including tokenisation and new forms of securitisation, as well as the broader impact of market trends on investment strategies and investor decision-making.
From a private client perspective, the conference reinforced the extent to which investment, financing and wealth structuring can no longer be analysed in isolation. Cross-border ownership, tax residency, financing arrangements, treaty access, substance and succession considerations increasingly interact within the same structure.
This is particularly relevant for internationally mobile individuals, families, founders and investors with interests in Portugal, where relocation, investment and asset-holding decisions frequently require coordinated analysis across Portuguese and foreign tax and legal frameworks.
f/Legal advises individuals, families, founders and investors on Portuguese tax and private client matters, including cross-border structuring, relocation and investment in Portugal.
